Blackie it still hasn't sunken in,l think another Premiership in 2018 might help
Great friendship between Hardwick and Clarkson.
Clarkson was Port Adelaide midfield coach, 2003, 2004.
Hardwick was a key player in Port Adelaide's inaugural premiership.
Clarkson was appointed Hawthorn senior coach in 2005, selecting Hardwick as an assistant. (Five wins in Clarkson's first year!)
I was reading the Adelaide forum for a laugh post GF, and a few of their posters lamented something like.........
"As soon as I saw Hardwick and Clarkson in deep discussion in GF week and discovered they were great mates I knew we were in trouble"
Apparently Hawthorn have them figured out.
I always find it weird the saying 'figured them out' or anything along those lines.
With all this footage, I am sure every team knows what every other team is trying to do, beyond 'get the ball, keep the ball, kick goal, repeat' and I am sure the players understand as well, its just execution that is the difference.
I think that is where Richmonds game plan is different to the rest. A plan just built on pressure & 1% efforts, which ANYONE can do. Not every player can do what Dusty, Dangerfield or Franklin can do, but every player can run, chase and put pressure on, contribute to the opposition making a mistake so others can benefit. It was a truly selfless team during the finals.
Well.........the Clarkson inside info is just the tip of the iceberg, we were also the beneficiaries of major bias from the umpires.
Oh, and add to that our home ground advantage, the fact that Graham, a South Australian boy should have been playing for Adelaide, the Crows had no chance in this grossly unfair contest where the AFL stacked everything against them
Adelaide had never lost a GF at the G until this year.
Jeez not bad from @thebigricho
Now that I think about it more, Houli was robbed.
If you add the final 2 rounds to the equation, which is where we really clicked into our finals form following the close loss to Geelong, our percentage was 194!!!
Sold out on the HUN website.
Well that's a bit mad !
Fair effort that.
All packed for my trip to CrowTown tomorrow.
Don’t think I’ll have any trouble locating my bag.
BTC loves the third person reference.
Of course, it'll be a doddle to spot on the conveyor...
i would add that the ability to do it for 4 quarters has been The Difference.
how often do we hear commentary a-la "they have made giant efforts for not much scoreboard pressure, this will bite them on the bum" etc. so we would have "rubber band" games where the team behind would surge, get even and then due to fatigue/desire fall away again. we just smashed that paradigm out of the park.
i wonder if the one step back was about sacrificing matchday fitness cycles for a much fitter, stamina-based 2017.
I hope Tex Walker does not do the stare when you arrive at Adelaide airport, @BigTigerCasey. It is so frightening it should be banned. Come on Gillon!
Friday night footy at my place: GF replay.
Something just occurred to me, Graham kicked two set shots from similarish spots that Riewoldt and Walker missed badly from. Ice cold that kid!
On this basis, I expect a 3peat sometime in the near future
It is an apt summary of our season 2017.
From our coach.........
"It's funny, I was speaking to Clarko on Monday night about the eeriness to the 2008 Hawks. I think in 2008 the Hawks lost to Richmond in about round 20 and played their best football thereafter.
"We lost to Geelong round (21) and then we just went whack, whack, whack, whack, whack, whack.
"We learned a lot of lessons from the games that we lost and we played our best footy when it mattered most."
The Hawks missed the finals in 09 didn't they???
Yes, the hurt from that failed season was the driver for their eventual 3peat apparently.
Hopefully we can bypass the interim hurt since we've had all our hurt prior, unlike the Hawks who won the flag with one of their first forays into the finals under Clarko.
Yes, as far as 'hurt' goes, ours wasn't a 3peat, it was a 37peat.
