I wouldn't object, however I am conscious of a lack of backup KP players in defence. All things being equal, I'd prefer our KP recruits to be swingmen, capable of playing at both ends. Can someone remind me whether Reid as a swingman?

In terms of overall list management, I'd like to think we have approx one elite specialist KP defender and one elite specialist KP forward on the park, two elite KP swingmen on the park, and at least two AFL-ready second tier swingmen in our overall squad. This doesn't include guys like Griffiths who can swing between being a ruckman and a tall forward.

At present, Rance and Riewoldt fit the 'specialist' bill, and I regard Astbury as a swingman, even though he is currently playing solely as a defender. I think they were hoping Elton would develop into a swingman, but even if he was, he's constantly sending us the message he's not AFL-ready. So we're certainly short by a couple of versatile talls that can step straight into the senior team and be relied upon to play an important role.

Of course these numbers I'm throwing around can vary somewhat if you have a few mid-size utility players (around 192 cm) who can play both small and tall, as well as contribute in both defence and attack, along with pinch-hitting in the midfield.

Reid can play either end. Trengove can play back, forward and ruck. Both free agents and would be good pick ups.

Jay Clark has said today that we are showing interest in Reid and could snag him for around $600k per year. A 2nd key forward that kicks goals and takes marks. Wouldn't that be nice?
